The Feel Of A Name

A woman was explaining to me tonight how the url of her new venture was pleasing to type in the sense of the relative movements of either hand.

This had occurred by luck rather than design, but it makes one think. I'm personally a little sceptical about the positive impact of a product or service name - unless it is a spectacularly good one. But making it easy/fun to type might be a clever reinforcer and a way to utilise the impact of the sense of touch in a previously unconsidered way.

Whilst I think she's overselling her bloody URL [and I don't even know what it is] isn't having something easy to type/remember part of business common sense rather than some deep bloody insight?

Or have I been getting it wrong all these years?

Yes of course. However, this wasn't about easy to type, but tactilely interesting. No great insight, just somethign I hadn't considered.

And she didn't tell me what the url wasas it's yet to launch.

I appreciate the tactile element - it's a very underated element - but in the ladies case, do you feel it was more a post rationalised element or something that fundamentally drove their decision.

Of course, if their URL is www.qwerty.com then I'll bow down to their brilliance.

Rob .. you're a cheeky bugger ;-)
I wasn't trying to sell my URL to anyone. I have just noticed that since naming our new venture and obviously typing the name a lot - It feels quite nice to type - it has a rhythm.

I think these days, even more than a compelling business product name, having a Domain name that keywords the actual solutions or problems your product addresses can be very valuable.
for example a client of mine is developing a parenting/behavior class and her proposed product name was something like "peaceful parenting" so I suggested she actually buy the domain name "StopTantrums" because thats a much higher traffic google search term.

and in this case, sorry to say but,
if the 'tactile appeal" of a given domain name or its pleasant rhythm had anything whatsoever to do with increasing sales or traffic what do you think the Porn sites would do with such knowledge?
think about it.
laugh a little
get back to me later with your 'thoughts"
thanks and take care
