Blog Or Blag?

Is allowing advertising on your blog an example of making money with what you do rather than because of what you do?

I'm not sure I know the answer. I very much think the "because effect" is central to new marketing but wonder if it's consistent with thah if you earn money by virtue of yoru blogging audience's advertising eyeballs rather than earn money as a result of your audience choosing to hire you or spread your ideas to someone who might hire you.
