Roundabout Marketing (Far From Indirect).
So you find yourself at a roundabout focussing on the traffic-flow you're seeking to join and you're distracted by this.
A council that cuts down street trees in order to avoid the risk of a branch one day falling on someone and prompting a lawsuit, but a council that doesn't seem to have grasped the whole interruptive concept and how it might be a little dangerous in this situation.
More than that, it's indicative of how few organisations/people still actually understand marketing.

Yep.
I did like one I saw in Sheffield though, at a roundabout where a new VW/Audi dealers is being built they put the Audi logo in the grass.
Much more simple and memorable in that circumstance.
maybe you're approaching this wrong. you're seeing an obnoxious ad blocking something informational. but let's take a look at it from a hierarchy of need and fulfillment.
which would be more satisfying: needing to go to hasting, and going to hastings?
or
needing a sauna and having a sauna?
... or a gazebo, if that's your particular flavour.
could hastings possibly compare? oh so doubtful. now isn't that something to think on.
